The Question

What happens now that Semester Loan Laptops are going away?

Our Answer

As the Semester Loan Laptop program goes away,  you may have the following questions:

When is my laptop due?

Your laptop is due May 1, 2026. If you need it for that last day of classes, contact us and we will note it in your record.  All laptops must be returned by Thursday, May 14th.

Can't I keep the laptop?

No. The laptop was purchased with federal grant dollars and cannot be given away to students.

Can I buy it?

No.  We cannot sell you the laptop for the same reason we cannot give it to you.

What do I do with my files?

We suggest saving them to Onedrive. Each student has 10 GB of storage allotted to them where they can save files that they need for school.  The L&LC will hold one on one appointments and classes to help students move their files as the due date gets closer.

What happens if I don't return the laptop and charger?

As the agreement you signed when you checked out the laptop states, "If you lose or fail to return the laptop by the due date provided to you at checkout, you are liable for replacement cost for the laptop and its cord. Failure to return the laptop and/or pay for its replacement could affect your ability to register for future classes at MJC."

What if I can't return the laptop because it was lost or stolen?

Contact us a circulation@mjc.libanswers.com as soon as possible so that we can discuss your options.
